About Basil

A 1987 Land Rover Defender with more character than drivability.

Rebuilt and resprayed in 2024, we have taken him ( or rather him taken us) to so many amazing corners of the world with more yet to come.

He’s slow, noisy and has the aerodynamics of a garden shed. He leaks when it rains, the heater has its own interpretation of “warm”, and in summer the closest thing to air conditioning is opening the windows and parking in the shade.

He has carried mountain bikes across the Alps, camp kitchens into forests, paddleboards to glacial lakes and enough cheese home from France to deter any police.

Like all old Land Rovers, Basil has a habit of choosing the least convenient moments to demand attention. But every repair seems to become part of the story, and every new scratch feels more like a memory than a mistake.

Life is simply more interesting with Basil in it.
